I had so much fun photographing this sweet family! Their little one kept me in stitches the whole time and reminded me of just how much I love photographing children his age. He spent the shoot negotiating with his mom for more incentives to smile during pictures (working his way up to a whole pack of gum) and asking me questions about how the camera worked.
There is a lot to be said for having traditional, posed portraits of your family. They look good around the house, they work well on Christmas cards and they’re what Grandma always wants in a frame on her shelf. In each shoot, I make sure to get beautiful posed portraits for those purposes, and then move on to portraits of more natural interactions among the family members.
I love the top image where the sweet little boy ran towards me to ask me a question about my camera while his parents waited behind him for another family portrait. But my favorite image from the shoot is the bottom one – peaceful and sweet. I love the natural feel of the kid’s head on his dad’s shoulder and arm on his mom’s leg.
I can pose families for hours, but nothing beats the moments where they relax and just enjoy the moment they’re in together.
