Beauty by Berit

Ever since I photographed Aaron and Elise’s wedding last summer I keep getting asked the same question: Who did Elise’s makeup? So I’m finally sitting down to write a blog post about the only makeup artist I ever recommend to my brides.

I generally try very hard not to refer vendors to my brides. There is a big risk that if the vendor doesn’t do their job well that it reflects poorly on me and my studio because we suggested them. However, I have absolutely no hesitancy in recommending Berit. Besides her fantastic job with Elise’s hair and makeup (and her bridesmaids makeup as well), she was professional, kind, patient, and most importantly when it comes to your wedding day beauty services: she finished the job in the amount of time she communicated that she would.

Elise had her make-up airbrushed, and I swear I have never had to do such a small amount of retouching on any wedding ever. She looked flawless, but still retained texture and didn’t look like she was wearing “a lot of makeup.”

Berit arrived at the location where the girls were getting ready with a full arsenal of professional makeup products – prepared to mix and blend until she got the exact shade she wanted for each girl. She maintained a clean and organized workspace (which made my job as a photographer easier) and kept the atmosphere light with joyful small talk.

You can really see in this image how polished and glowing the bride looks, but she still retains some of her natural skin texture and doesn’t look like she’s wearing a thick layer of makeup. Her makeup held up all the way through the reception – she looked phenomenal the whole day.

Berit curled and styled Elise’s hair as well. Isn’t it stunning? Hair, makeup, and she was finished on time! I know that sounds like a reasonable expectation to have, but I can’t tell you how often the hair and makeup artists I run into at weddings run EXTREMELY late. And when your hair and makeup run late, you are late getting into your dress, and late to take pictures and then you lose the amount of time you wanted to have to take portraits.

Here Berit is showing Elise her first glimpse at her makeup. Most often I believe you can find Berit applying the makeup and styling the hair of brides at such glamorous places as The Montage in Laguna Beach and The Resort at Pelican Hill – which may make you think she’s out of your price range. I actually think her prices are extremely reasonable and a fantastic value. Her work is stunning and you’ll look fantastic in not only your photographer’s images (which get hints of retouching) but in all the candids your friends and family take as well.

One last curl touch up before the bride hustled off to put on her dress!

My final note of encouragement to brides considering booking Berit (or any makeup artist for that matter), I strongly urge you to consider booking their services for your entire bridal party. There is a beauty in the cohesiveness of these 4 girls which can only be achieved by having the same artist or company apply their makeup. I have seen way too many weddings where one bridesmaid does her makeup herself, two bridesmaids go to the Mac counter at the mall and one lets her cousin in cosmetology school apply hers. While each of those options isn’t necessarily a bad one, the chances of them complementing each other are extremely slim.
